Traditional Uses

In traditional Chinese practice, Mang Xiao has long been valued as a salty, cold mineral agent used mainly in external applications. Folk herbalists traditionally filled cloth bags with the powder to make abdominal compresses, often paired with Da Huang (大黄, Rhubarb root) in topical packs. Such packs were traditionally applied to the abdomen or swollen areas as part of seasonal wellness routines, always as an external remedy rather than an internal preparation.
